SUMMARY:Trudy and The Romance
DESCRIPTION:Trudy and the Romance brought us “Mutant 50’s pop” – a self-described style of 21st century Doo-Wop Rock & Roll. \nSigning with B3SCI led to the release of the EP Junkyard Jazz\, featuring ballad Is There a Place I Can Go. \nTheir debut album Sandman followed\, bringing listeners into the world of Little Johnny with a coming-of-age concept of first and lost love; a myriad of instrumental sounds and harmonies\, influenced by The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds and Disney film scores. \nTrudy and the Romance returned with a new sonic direction. Creating an energetic yet lovelorn take on Americana and romantic Country\, they released singles Angel and Love You Now from the EP Smashed Up My Fender. \nFor now\, Oliver Taylor and his exceptional six-piece band take their sound and hit the road. Join them on their exciting and immersive U.K tour.

SUMMARY:The Regulars Variety Show
DESCRIPTION:Inspired and informed by the waves of recent pub closures and with intention to remind us of what will be lost without them\, ‘The Regulars’ is a socially surreal and absurd comedy show which aims to immerse its audiences in the culture and atmosphere of the Pub.  The show hopes to pay ode to the weird and wonderful characters we have all come across within pubs that make it what it is. Join the eponymous pub regulars as they laugh\, cry\, gamble and of course drink their way through life’s many ups and downs.  In this show\, we hope to establish a pub community\, one that usually takes lifetime to achieve\, in one night. A raucous love letter to pubs\, pub culture and the importance of community in the face of overpriced Guinness\, based on real stories from real people. We want to highlight the importance of community/ third spaces whilst they are still around. We hope to put more shows on\, like this one\, specifically at pubs as the spending from audience members at the bar and new clientele is vital lifeblood to keep them open in an uncertain landscape. Next round is on you!!

SUMMARY:Faux Fancy: The Queen's Head plus Luuuc and Sunglasz Vendor
DESCRIPTION:THE QUEEN’S HEAD\nA tidal wave of anger\, fear\, love\, and lust. While it would be easy to label this group as some form of ‘post-punk’\, there’s a push and pull in the blend of Dub and Disco influences that bubbles with tenacity and intrigue. A stick of dynamite with a fuse as long as a piece of string. As danceable as it is riot-inducing. Truly one of the great live shows in the city\, they will make you sweat\, and make you fall to your knees. \nLUUUC\nHaving just released initial single\, ‘Panic’\, Luuuc has already sparked a light in the tunnel guided by the track’s contained-yet-writhing energy. A new venture from a seasoned pro of the stage\, we’re excited to watch this act shed further light on on their interpretation of guitar-tinged frenzy. \nSUNGLASZ VENDOR\nBristol trio wriggling with experimental rock riffs\, shrouded in emo to guitar-pop influences. As furious as they are inquisitive. \n– \nDoors 19:30\nMusic Starts 20:15 \nTickets £8 online and on the door\nNOTAFLOF\nIf you’d like to come to the show but can’t afford it\, please give us an email (fauxfancylive@gmail.com) or speak to someone on the door.

SUMMARY:BAG\, Daylightbulb\, Go Sing
DESCRIPTION:This event features 3 acts exploring sound\, noise\, music and the interplay with voice and lyrics…. \nBAG \n“Theirs is a world where music and language seem precariously tied together\, emerging in a lyrical call and response to create something as bewildering as it is lucid. It triggers a unique effect for the listener. Never didactic\, BAG’s music feels like an invitation to join them in charting the contours of a world constantly in flux.” Daryl Worthington (The Quietus) \nThis will be the act’s first performance as a 3 piece with Angèle David Guillou. \nDaylightbulb \nDaylightbulb is the noise-punk band of Nathan Greywater (base)\, Tom Spurling (framework) and Iris Colomb (spokesperson). Together\, they combine improvised bass and drums with absurdist cut-up sprechstimme vocals to confront a NEAR AND LUMINOUS FUTURE in which NOTHING GOOD HAPPENS. Warped textures and restless beats contract and collapse\, fueled by distorted slogans and impossible imperatives. This project was sparked by the explosive spontaneity of Skronk\, Rick Jensen’s legendary free-improvisation sessions. \nGo Sing \nGo Sing gathers artists laur rozier and ada egg koskiluoma. in their sound\, texts and performances they explore a landscape of love\, rivalry and companionship. \nTheir minimalist opera the way you saw me is guided by voices that appear as instrumental texture\, an incantation with intertwining narratives. space and bodies thrown off balance\, grow into a meditation on dramatic scrolling and the life of others. never quite in reach but so close.

SUMMARY:Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival - Striking with Pride: United at the Coalface + Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Between London Pride 1984 and 1985 an unlikely alliance was forged between the gay men and lesbians of London and the striking miners of South Wales. \nStriking with Pride: United at the Coalface at The Ivy House on Thursday 5th September will captivate you with the unexpected and\nuplifting love story at its heart. Not between two people\, but between two communities who – seemingly worlds apart – found common cause and compassion for each other in the face of immense challenges. As they fought for each other’s rights\, they changed the course of history for queer people in the UK. \nThis remarkable tale was made famous by the Bafta winning film Pride a decade ago\, but the real story behind the script is even richer and more powerful. And the legacy of these events is still felt to this day\, 40 years on from the miners’ strike. Narrated by Welsh drag icon Tayce\n(RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) with exclusive access to key contributors. \nQ&A with director Ashley Francis-Roy (Damilola: The Boy Next Door)\, producer Sasha Kosminsky (Untouchable: The Rise and Fall of Harvey Weinstein) and contributors.

SUMMARY:Falling Moon #35: The Last Whole Earth Catalog + Sham + Kaspar Hauser
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Ivy House on the 12th September for a very folksy evening with The Last Whole Earth Catalog (Brutal Reality Group)\, Sham (US) and Kaspar Hauser.\n\nIn January the Last Whole Earth Catalog debuted at the Ivy House the ‘Brutal Reality group’ – a special new folksy incarnation of the band to honour their wonderful 2023 album – cello\, flute\, double bass\, piano\, acoustic guitars\, melodica\, vocal harmonies etc. – you get the idea. That January show was a resounding success so we’re bringing them back for a second round.\n\n\nSham’s latest album ‘Machine Simple’ is a colourful journey of the psychedelic freak folk tunes\, endlessly creative\, experimental and charming. They crossed the pond from the US for this one – playing as a trio – be sure to catch their only London date!\n\n\nKaspar Hauser turns into a quintet for their first London show since the release of their debut album ‘Lighter Than a Feather’.

SUMMARY:The Ivy House 11th Birthday Bash: Tugboat Captain
DESCRIPTION:As the Summer draws to a close\, we throw our hands in the air and shout from the rooftops as we celebrate 11 years of community ownership here at The Ivy House. To mark the occasion\, we’ve curated two nights of our favourite live music from across the city\, starting with night one as follows… \nTUGBOAT CAPTAIN\nBaroque-pop at it’s absolute best. Tugboat Captain have evolved from the jangly\, lo-fi of 2017 smash ‘Don’t Want To Wake Up On My Own’\, into multi-layered symphonic pop masters. Recent tunes ‘Flash of Light’ and ‘Bosch’ are prime examples of the outfit’s limitless sonic scope\, with horizons akimbo and hits a plenty still bubbling away within their very innards. \nWhen not gracing stages across the world\, they can be found at their Bermondsey HQ recording fellow future superstars\, further baking themselves into the very fabric of the London music scene. \nThe cherry on top? They’re all very lovely people. \nSPECIAL GUEST TBA\nWe can’t give this one away quite yet\, but we will say that this groups harmonious\, melodic ways with leave you bursting at the ‘Spleen’. \nWILSHAW\nWilshaw is a project committed to creating honest and affecting music\, filtered through their soulful and tender blend of indie rock\, folk and pop. \nCONUS SP. BENT\nFolk guitars and pop melodies filtered through a leftfield structural view. 2023 album ‘New Stile’ is a glimpse into an artist playing with the very fabric of songwriting.

SUMMARY:The Ivy House 11th Birthday Bash All-Dayer
DESCRIPTION:As the Summer draws to a close\, we throw our hands in the air and shout from the rooftops as we celebrate 11 years of community ownership here at The Ivy House. To mark the occasion\, we’ve curated two nights of our favourite live music from across the city\, culminating in this massive all-dayer to see out the Summer… \nEX-VöID\nA power-pop quartet like no other. Ex-Vöid attack with a serene intertwining of dual vocals and guitars\, a harmonious afront that pushes the three minute structure to it’s very limits. Debut album “Bigger Than Before” was released on Prefect Records and Don Giovanni Records in 2022\, recorded live and dangerously in just under an hour. Guitar-pop fans rejoice\, it’s about to get sweaty. \nMORGAN NOISE\nUnexpected rhythms\, wonky synths and vocals are woven together by Morgan Noise in a perfect chaos. A regular at the Windmill\, and recently supporting Porridge Radio on their tour\, Morgan Noise has been making waves around London. Something new to wash out your ears\, you will not hear what is coming until it’s too late \nMOUNT DOOM\nFrom the very depths of Middle Earth emerge Mount Doom. The group take the famed soundtrack of the Lord of the Rings trilogy\, filtering the compositions through a sludge and doom metal lens to make the ground quake beneath our feet. More entrancing than Galadriel\, more powerful than the Horn of Helm Hammerhand\, bask in the glory of Mount Doom. \nLOU TERRY\nA firm fixture around The Ivy House\, Lou is one of our favourite music makers in the city. Harsh and experimental guitar tones blend with often deeply confessional and heartfelt song writing that result in a sound that can only be described as “raw power” in every sense of the phrase. He’ll make you weep\, he’ll make you jump in pure ecstasy. Lou Terry forever. \nSTRANGE DEVOTION\nA new group bringing an incredibly unique take on wonky new wave to the table. Danceable\, rockable\, utterly earworm-y\, while we wait with baited breath on their first release we have no choice but to absorb this group’s effortlessly cool live shows in all their glory.
